I. Course Deletion Change

TH 310   Acting (3)
Basic acting techniques, with emphasis on script analysis, character development, interpretation, movement, and voice. Prerequisite: TH 100 or permission of the dean

In conjunction with a reorganization of the theatre program and the development of a theatre minor, this one class in acting will be deleted and multiple levels in acting will be substituted (see next item). This course is one of two upper-level theatre course choices required for the English Language Arts student.  According to the certification officer, the new course (see below) will take the place of TH 310. NA
II. New Course

TH 211.  Acting I (3)
Designed for students of all levels, an introduction to the basic tools of the actor: body, voice , and imagination

This is the first of several acting courses which will be central to the theatre minor; exercises, improvisation, and scene analyses will be required for basic training of the actor. See above. NA
III. New Course

TH 220.  Stagecraft (3)
An experiential learning course which focuses on the basic techniques of carpentry, lighting, sound, scenic painting, and backstage safety procedures

Such a course is important in any academic theatre program; aside from the emphasis on safety, the student will benefit from acquiring basic building skills while creating the sets needed for the plays.  This will be an important  course in the theatre minor. None None
